My Thinking Corner: AMA

Currently I am attending the Entertainment Business Master program at Full Sail University in Orlando (FL), and the more I move on through the program, the more interesting insights I come to learn. These are not only beneficial tips to craft our education, but essential tools to become the CEOs of tomorrow!

Nowadays we live in an increasingly digital world. When we write on one of our girlfriend's wall,  or we post a picture from
last weekend, or we like a friend's post, we are increasing our presence in the Internet. All our actions on the social media we use on a daily basis, reflect who we are, what we like and what we do. Used in an unaware way, our social media accounts may result very dangerous for our reputation.

By attending Full Sail, and having the possibility to learn from professors who teach the real world business, I came to realize how important my web presence can be, so much that can make the difference between being hired or not.

One of the key aspects of a successful "CEO of Me" person (Peters, 1997), it is the networking he is able to create and foster. Speaking about this particular aspect, one of the best sources for an effective networking is the American Marketing Association (AMA).

On their official website, they offer a wide range of networking opportunities. They do that through a widespread net of chapters through the US. With a single click, hundreds of doors on the marketing business can be opened and they can allow the visitor to explore countless opportunities and connections directly into the field.

Also, there are several videos and posts written by professionals that provide important tips that enrich one's experience about a wide selection of topics. The most viewed this last week talked about business cards and social media.

The AMA, and especially its official website, has a huge impact on the marketing industry. It provides a vast selection of publications and a newsletter which helps keeping track of the latest trends in the field. AMA puts in contact various professionals throughout the country, by letting them share their stories in the Video Storytelling session.

However, probably the most useful tool of the entire website is the event panel. By clicking on this section, one finds all the upcoming events sponsored by AMA. These events are probably the best source of networking with professionals in the industry.

From September 9th through the 11th in New Orleans there will be the Annual Marketing Conference. It is going to be an event of great importance, because all the leaders in the marketing, branding and digital fields are going to be there.

Realizing the importance of a wise networking strategy is the first step toward a brilliant career. Going out there and getting to know first-hand the leaders in your field, whichever it is, is essential in order to build up your experience and be a successful professional.

I am planning to go to New Orleans... and YOU?
