American Horror Story - Coven 3x02

Frankenstein. That's how we could nickname the second episode of the show that, season after season, has been adding millions and millions of enthusiastic fans to its ranks. After only two episodes, it is clear the focus of this third season will be the resurgence.  However, it seems that bringing someone back to life is a very risky business, and not always things came back the way they used to be...

Resurgence,  but also immortality: perpetual pursuit of eternal life. That is Fiona's ultimate desire, the thing she covets for more than any other and she will do anything to obtain it. I was very glad to see again the "lovely" Madame Lalaurie (oh what a surprise! Like if an actress such as Kathy Bates could be limited to one episode...), which apparently now is an immortal.
Also in this third season of AHS, there seem to be Ryan Murphy 's preferred narrative themes, which he touches in every series he worked on and likes to address with a very particular language. These are the fear of diversity, prejudices and several types of discrimination. Somehow they are portrayed in Coven and they will be developed as the show goes on.

Personally, a real, bad-ass, imminent danger is what this season seems to lack so far. Ok, there is Marie Laveau who is ready to use the bull-man against whoever i going to be on her way, but unlikely the two previous seasons ("Will this family survive?" - "Will Lana escape from the asylum?") Coven does not have a specific, well defined goal.

For now we can enjoy the exquisite performances of the trio Lange-Bates-Bassett, which alone are worth the view of the whole season. A special consideration must be given to the character of Misty Day (she died too in the first episode but now she is mysteriously back to life), apparently a great fan of the Fleetwood Mac, whose singer was accused to have written a song referring to witchcraft. Who knows, maybe Misty Day will be the revelation of this season...
